COMPASSIONATE, EVIDENCE-BASED SUPPORT FOR DEPRESSION AND LOW MOOD THROUGH AN INTEGRATIVE, FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE & NUTRITIONAL PSYCHIATRY APPROACH.

Depression is a complex condition that goes beyond feeling sad or low. It can affect mood, motivation, energy, sleep, and overall quality of life — and the underlying contributors often differ from person to person.

At Re:Health, we take an integrative, evidence-based approach to understanding these factors. Combining functional medicine and nutritional psychiatry, we explore how inflammation, nutrient status, gut health, hormones, and stress can influence mood and brain chemistry.

Where appropriate, our practitioners also provide nutritional and lifestyle support for individuals working with their prescribing doctor or psychiatrist to safely taper antidepressant medication. This collaborative approach helps ensure any reduction is managed with the right level of physiological and emotional support.

Symptoms

PERSISTENT LOW MOOD OR SADNESS

LOSS OF INTEREST IN ACTIVITIES ONCE ENJOYED

FATIGUE OR LOW MOTIVATION

CHANGES IN APPETITE OR WEIGHT

FEELINGS OF WORTHLESSNESS, HOPELESSNESS OR GUILT

SLEEP DISTURBANCES (INSOMNIA OR OVERSLEEPING)

The conventional approach

Conventional treatment for depression often includes antidepressant medication and psychological therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). These interventions can be helpful and, for many, life-saving.

However, research shows that a significant proportion of individuals do not achieve full remission with medication alone, suggesting that additional biological or lifestyle factors may also be contributing.

Our work is designed to complement conventional care — never to replace it — offering a broader, integrative framework to support brain and mental health.

Our approach

We combine the principles of functional medicine and nutritional psychiatry to explore the biological, biochemical, genetic and environmental influences that can affect mood regulation. This often includes:

BALANCING NEUROTRANSMITTERS

Supporting dopamine, serotonin, and GABA pathways through targeted nutrition and lifestyle strategies.

INVESTIGATING NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES

Assessing key nutrients such as B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, iron, and omega-3s that are essential for mood stability.

OPTIMISING GUT-BRAIN HEALTH

Exploring the gut microbiome and gut-brain axis as imbalances can directly affect mood, anxiety, and motivation.

ADDRESSING INFLAMMATION & OXIDATIVE STRESS

Identifying inflammatory drivers and supporting mitochondrial health and resilience.

EXAMINING HORMONAL IMBALANCES

Examining hormonal imbalances, including thyroid and adrenal function.

PERSONALISED NUTRITION

Developing personalised nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement plans tailored to your unique biochemistry and needs.

Where appropriate, we also support clients working alongside their prescribing doctor or psychiatrist to taper antidepressants safely. This process is approached collaboratively and gradually, with nutritional and biochemical support to help maintain stability throughout withdrawal.

Our integrative approach is combines compassion with science-led care to support you every step of the way.
